Another off season for Jays fans and all we have to show for it is AGon and Marco signing with a divisional rival. We also lost Joe Inglett to the Rangers for nothing. Inglett is probably the most under-rated Blue Jays of the last couple years.

Off Season Moves - Alex Anthopoulos

Alex Anthopoulos - I hope that is spelled right, brings with him a lot of Assistant GM experience. Being hired as a scout, the Jays have done a pretty good job of developing and identifying talent under the JP regime. So we should assume that Alex must have been part of that, so I am going to move passed the talent assessment part of the application. Anthopoulos is going to have to bring in free agents that - A. want to be here and B. fill the holes that are all over the diamond.

The attempted movement of much maligned Lyle Overbay has been a poorly kept secret. Alex had agreed to taking C Chris Snyder from the Arizona Diamondbacks for Over"paid". This would have provided another hitting catcher and free up some money to find a more potent bat. The American League east is loaded with poor hitting 1st basemen. The Jays need to more consistent production from 1st base. Anthopoulos has also been busy shopping Doc Halladay to the Dodgers, Cubs and anyone who has players to offer. The Cubs are pretty cash strapped, with 42 million contributed to their bullpen. The Jays aren't going to Milton Bradley off their hands. This should be an amazing off season, as the Jays look to reload.

Offseason Training in Cold Climates

Yes, I know Baseball in the snow is no fun. But if you don't keep your arm and body in shape then your going to be well behind everyone else come spring time. Here are a few drills that should provide an opportunity to keep in shape.

1. Hit the Gym. You have to keep your body in shape, that includes Legs, Shoulders, Back and Arms.

2. Keep swinging even when nobody is pitching. That's right. Hit off a T - even the big leaguers do it.

3. Try and get to an indoor facility atleast 2 times a month. Rick Johnston has a place in Mississauga. Here is a link - www.thebaseballzone.ca - I believe there are several other locations as well in Toronto.

Off-Season Training - 2008

Hi Guys,

I know the season is over for most of us. But remember to keep training full year round. Here is a great article I found about Albert Pujols - 2008 NL MVP and how he trains none stop. In life it is all about longevity and remaining on top. The Guys who make a real impact, work on their weaknesses as well as their strengths. When your playing, it is important to remember what you do best. But always keep in mind how people usually attack you. I am a great high fast ball hitter. I also love to pull the ball. My biggest challenge is remembering that I hit the pitch away better than I do when I pull everything.

Remember guys! keep training and keep working.

Season Over - Storing your Equipment

As fall hits us and the season comes to a close. It is important to care for your baseball equipment, to get it ready for the winter season. Ball gloves should be oiled slightly and wrapped in cloth, with 3 or 4 baseballs in the pocket. It is important to make sure that you don't lose the pocket you spent all summer working on. Also, all wood bats should be stored some place dry as they will collect moisture in a damp basement. This makes them heavier the following summer.

Make Mom happy by keeping all your gear in one place - a closet is usually a good idea. If you need a new glove, now is the best time to ask your parents or wallet if you can have one. This will give you the time necessary to get it into shape. We all know how long it takes to get the glove just right.

Kids - just because baseball is over doesn't mean you stop working at getting better. Make sure to keep running, do push ups to build upper body strength and throw a football atleast once a week if it gets to cold for a baseball.
